Majority Whip's job is to count votes and ‘whip' up support for their party's legislation and keep members focused on the mission. They collect information on whose votes cannot be counted on.
Minority Whip's job is to encourage fellow party members to vote as the party leadership wants. The minority whip also coordinates the party's caucus in its responses to legislation and other matters.

Committee Chairmen are chosen by the majority party and usually went to the member with the most seniority. In recent years that has changed when Congress started to look toward new leadership and new ideas. Because much of the work in the House takes place in committees, the chairs have great power.
